Biblical Confessions

Ps 25:6-7, 11, 16-18

Remember, O Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.

Remember not the sins of my youth, and my rebellious ways;

According to your love remember me, for you are good, O Lord…

For the sake of your name, O Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.

Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.

The troubles of my heart have multiplied; free me from my anguish.

Look upon my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins.

Ps 38:1-4, 9, 18, 21-22

O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger,
 nor discipline me in your wrath!
For your arrows have sunk into me,
 and your hand has come down on me.

There is no soundness in my flesh
 because of your indignation;
there is no health in my bones
 because of my sin.
For my iniquities have gone over my head;
 like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.

O Lord, all my longing is before you;
 my sighing is not hidden from you.
I confess my iniquity;
 I am sorry for my sin.

Do not forsake me, O Lord!
 O my God, be not far from me!
Make haste to help me,
 O Lord, my salvation!

Ps 40:11-13

Do not withhold your mercy from me, O Lord;

May your love and your truth always protect me.

For trouble without number surrounds me;

My sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see.

They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me.

Be pleased, O Lord, to save me;

O Lord, come quickly to help me.

Ps 51:1-4

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion, blot out my transgressions.

Wash away all my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.

Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight,

So that you are proved right when you speak, and justified when you judge.

Ps 130:1-4

 Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord!
2  O Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my pleas for mercy!

3 If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
4 But with you there is forgiveness,
that you may be feared.

Ps 139:23-24

 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!

Romans 7:14-20, 24-25

 14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. 15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. 16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. 17 So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.  24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks  be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the  law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.

James 4:6-10

 6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.

Ancient/Early Church Confessions

“You alone are the Benefactor of spirits and the God of all flesh… You behold the depths and know the works of men; You are the helper of the imperiled, the hope of the desperate, the savior of those without hope… We beseech You, Master, to be our helper and protector. Save those among us who are in tribulation; have mercy on the lowly; lift up the fallen; show Yourself to those in need; heal the sick; turn back the wanderers of Your people; feed the hungry; ransom our prisoners; raise up the weak; encourage the fainthearted. Let all the nations know that You are God alone” -Clement of Rome/ 1 Clement 59:3-60:1
